One of the most important things to me when building a new house was that it have curb appeal. Our old house was severely lacking any curb appeal and it was a “soft contemporary” style…NOT my style at all. It’s strange, but the lack of curb appeal was one of the BIGGEST things I hated about our house! It sounds really superficial, but it just didn’t make me happy.
I made sure we had a big front porch on our new house and we love it! This year I used annuals mixed with herbs for my containers. The pansies are mixed with parsley and I’ve used mint and basil in other groupings as well. Not only beautiful, but useful and they smell great too! I found several old galvanized buckets to use as planters. One is an old olive collecting basket and one is a maple sap bucket which still has some sap on it! And do you like my whiskey barrel side tables? $30 at Home Depot! They were meant to be planters, but I turned them upside down, cleaned them with a wire brush (they were super rusty), and spray painted some clear matte weather protector on them.
