My New House- Front Porch & Container Plants

One of the most important things to me when building a new house was that it have curb appeal.  Our old house was severely lacking any curb appeal and it was a “soft contemporary” style…NOT my style at all.  It’s strange, but the lack of curb appeal was one of the BIGGEST things I hated about our house!  It sounds really superficial, but it just didn’t make me happy.

I made sure we had a big front porch on our new house and we love it!  This year I used annuals mixed with herbs for my containers.  The pansies are mixed with parsley and I’ve used mint and basil in other groupings as well.  Not only beautiful, but useful and they smell great too!  I found several old galvanized buckets to use as planters.  One is an old olive collecting basket and one is a maple sap bucket which still has some sap on it!   And do you like my whiskey barrel side tables?  $30 at Home Depot!  They were meant to be planters, but I turned them upside down, cleaned them with a wire brush (they were super rusty), and spray painted some clear matte weather protector on them.

Janet & Mike are Engaged! | Columbus Ohio Wedding Photographer

Janet & Mike are the sweetest couple!  When I met them down in German Village, they hadn’t booked me yet for their wedding.  By the end of our session, I was practically begging them to hire me because I loved them so much!  :)  We had such a fun time and I’m so excited to part of their wedding this June in Indiana!   So yes, if you are local and having an out of town wedding, I TRAVEL!  :)

My New House | Columbus Ohio Photographer

So this Fall I was super busy both professionally and personally! I’ve always wanted to use my blog for personal things too, so now is a great time to start! We built a new house that had been my “labor of love” for quite a while. We finally moved in at the end of October. Some of my “online” friends have been asking me to see pictures, so before a party (i.e. the house was clean) I snapped some pictures of my kitchen, sun room, and mudroom. I really should have used flash for these, but I was in a hurry, so these will have to do for now!

I’m a little late to the party…but can you share what color the kitchen island is?

Lyndsey - June 2, 2016 - 2:10 pm

Hello there! I have fallen madly in love with your home and design style. My family and I just purchased 14 acres in a country setting and are in the planning stages of building a 2500sqft ranch. Your home is going to be my inspiration. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to answer a few questions? Please tell me if all these walls are bm Wickham gray, and if not, which ones are and what are the others? We designed an extremely open greatroom so I’m looking for one amazing color to paint the whole thing. And is your backsplash white subway tile with white grout? And what paint color did you paint your island? Thank you, thank you in advance for your time and help :) God Bless!

Dana - September 16, 2016 - 2:18 pm

What is the wall color, pls? Did you paint the island full strength Wickham Gray, and the walls 1/2 strength?

newadmin - September 16, 2016 - 4:44 pm

Wall is Wickham Gray and Island is Slate from the Manufacturer- Debut Cabinetry. :)

Taylor - February 7, 2017 - 7:45 pm

newadmin - February 8, 2017 - 4:18 pm
